Why buy artisanal soap?

Life is expensive, and increasingly so, and many people are looking for areas to
cut their budgets. In this environment, making the decision to buy artisanal soap may be tough. Perhaps you’re wondering if it’s worth it, or whether to stick with buying the liquid hand soap or bars from the local grocery store. Well, to help with your decision making, here are my top three reasons to buy local, artisanal, all-natural soap.

First, it lasts a long time. Artisanal soap made with the ancient cold process method once ‘cured’ – and this process continues so the older the better-is a hard and long-lasting bar of soap. Just like with commercial variety, soap bars should not be left sitting in pooled water between uses. If kept properly, the soap will last a very long time. I used to use liquid hand soap in my bathrooms and kitchen and the amount of soap used made it comparable in price to the artisanal cold-processed bars.
Second, it’s better for your skin. Go into your bathroom cupboard and read the ingredients on the commercial soap. Most of the ingredients you will not be able to pronounce, let alone know what it is and the first ingredient is probably water. Artisanal soap is made with oils and butters and the only water used in the saponification process, and does not remain in the finish product. Using essential oils with medicinal and beneficial properties and clays and butters packed with minerals and nutrients, it’s a natural, healthier way to clean your skin.
Finally, it’s simply a better product. The lather is rich, the scent is natural not perfumy, and the clean is moisturizing not drying. There are some very nice commercial soaps available on the market, but they don’t compare with oil and fat based soap.
Here at The Cottage Line, we’re a little biased towards artisanal soap, but don’t just take our word for it. Try our soap, and if you don’t find it better than your commercial brand, we’ll refund your money.
